No retirement trip, no tributes, no items. The news that it would be dangling up after 19 months got using a Spurs PR release lacking even a single quotation.

He played without seeking anticipation and retired on his conditions without any clarification submitted on The Players’ Tribune, no-tear-stained news conference and, many usually, no farewell tour.

Paul Pressey, who, on a scouting mission in 1997, described Duncan to Coach Gregg Popovich as “the next coming,” said he expected nothing more, and yet was a little wistful about it all.
