Now that the San Diego Chargers are no more, a group of investors sees an opportunity for an MLS team to fill the space the NFL team has left behind.The investors unveiled a plan Monday to tear down Qualcomm Stadium and build a joint-use venue that would be home to an MLS expansion team, as well as San Diego State football.The stadium would have between 20,000 to 30,000 seats, with acreage set aside for a larger stadium in case the NFL decides to return to San Diego.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Plans to revitalize the Qualcomm Stadium site into a state-of-the-art, joint-use stadium will be presented today.Michael Stone and Nick Stone, of FS Investors, and Steve Altman, of AJL Investments, presented their concept to transform Mission Valley’s aging stadium into a new facility to house a potential Major League Soccer team.The stadium could also serve as a home for San Diego State University sports.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — With the NFL’s Chargers leaving for Los Angeles, a group of private investors unveiled plans Monday to bring an MLS team to San Diego and build a stadium that can be shared with San Diego State.In addition to the joint-use venue which could seat up to 30,000, the 166-acre Qualcomm Stadium site which has housed the Chargers would also be used for a sports and entertainment district, according to the FS Investors group’s plans.The plans also set aside acreage for a larger stadium, in case the NFL decides to return to San Diego.

An investor group that wants to bring an MLS team to San Diego shared an artistic rendering on Monday morning of the ambitious plan to draw professional sports and entertainment center.The mixed-used center would also include about 800 apartments and a 55-acre river park, under plans being discussed.
