Last month, UFC president Dana White publicly offered McGregor and Mayweather $25 million each for the potential boxing match.
Smith said Mayweather believes the fight will happen, but Mayweather said nothing is guaranteed until a deal is done.
Mayweather — the former pound-for-pound boxing king — told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that “we’re getting very, very close” to the superfight.
referring to “We’re getting very, very close,” the 39-year-old Mayweather told Smith.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes a superfight between him and MMA star Conor McGregor will happen sooner rather than later.
UFC president Dana White offered McGregor and Mayweather a sum of $25 million each in January for a fight.
The 28-year-old McGregor, the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, obtained his California boxing license in December.
Mayweather told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith at Saturday’s NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder that the two fighters are on the verge of an agreement.
