The E.L. Weigand Foundation gave an $8 million naming gift to the university for the fitness center.
The fitness center wasn’t just built with current students in mind.
“You take a fit body and a full brain and you’ve got an amazing individual,” says Kristen Avansino, President of the E.L. Wiegand Foundation.
Total project cost is $46.5 million dollars, funded through private gifts, student fees, institutional funds and state slot tax bond proceeds.
As it stated in RENO — The University of Nevada, Reno has opened up a new $47.5 million fitness center.
The University of Nevada, Reno Foundation, student fees and bonds accounted for $3 million of the project’s total costs.
The E.L. Wiegand Fitness Center includes a gym with three basketball courts and areas for weightlifting, cardio training and classes.
Funding for the project included an $8 million naming gift from the E.L. Wiegand Foundation and $1.5 million from Mario Gabelli and the Gabelli Foundation.
The fitness center is open to UNR students, faculty, staff and alumni.

The use of the facility is free for undergraduate students.
