When Phillips wanted to play for the boys’ team, she was denied.
“I’m really impressed for a girl being that aggressive on a basketball game, I was really impressed,” said Javier Geronimo.
“I think I did fine – I had 22 percent of the points, so that’s good,” she says.Phillips hadn’t even practiced with the team before the game.

Girl can play on boys basketball team, judge says after changing his mind

NEWARK — A Catholic school girl must be allowed to play on her school’s boys basketball team, despite claims that it violates league rules, a judge said Friday.
The parents claimed there is no rule prohibiting a girl from playing on a boys team.
“The settled legal right is that you have girls playing on boys teams,” Kessler said in making his decision.
Kessler, who had previously ruled that the was no legal requirement for the girl to play basketball, said recent reports of two girls being allowed to play on the St. John the Apostle School boys team in Clark was a significant development.
