Yao Ming elected president of Chinese Basketball Association according to : Shanghai Daily

As it stated in Home » Sports » BasketballYAO Ming, member of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and former NBA all-star player, was unanimously voted as the president of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Thursday.
He also led the Chinese national team to the last eight in 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Yao, 37, became the first-ever non-governmental personage to take the position at the ninth national congress of the association which was founded in 1956.
Since his retirement in 2011, Yao has been pursuing the reform of the professional basketball in China.
The CBA Charter also got revised in the congress, making president the association’s legal representative who used to be secretary-general.

according to The Chinese Basketball Association has voted unanimously to appoint NBA Hall of Famer Yao Ming as its president.
Yao’s appointment is considered as a reform step for an association which until now has typically been led by government sports officials.
Yao, 36, was one of the first Chinese athletes to become an international household name when the Houston Rockets drafted him with the first pick in 2002.
The Shanghai-born Yao was elected to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2016.
The CBA’s social media account quoted Yao as saying at a ceremony on Thursday that he hoped to reform the domestic league’s draft system and push more Chinese players into the international arena.

The 36-year-old is the most famous and successful Chinese basketball player of all time, as he was selected to eight NBA All-Star Games in his nine years in the league.
According to ESPN.com, Yao stepped down from his role as owner of the CBA’s Shanghai Sharks in order to assume his new position.
1 overall draft pick expressed his desire to tweak the league’s draft system and alter the way Chinese players are taught and trained.
The 7’6″ Yao is deeply rooted in the CBA due to his former ownership of the Sharks and the fact that he played for them from 1997 through 2002.
