Alistair Overeem Vs Fabricio Werdum Trilogy Fight Targeted For UFC 213
A heavyweight trilogy fight between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum is the first fight to be targeted for UFC 213 on July 8th in Las Vegas.
After that win Overeem left Strikeforce for the UFC, where he’s since compiled a 7-4 record.
That earned him an interim title shot against Mark Hunt, and after defeating him by TKO he unified the title with a submission win over Cain Velasquez.
The two veteran stars first fought in PRIDE back in May of 2006, with Werdum winning on that occasion by kimura submission.
He’s since rebounded with a KO win over Mark Hunt, leaving him ranked No.3 in the division.

Fabricio Werdum vs. Alistair Overeem trilogy bout expected for UFC 213
Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem are set to meet in a battle between two of the top three heavyweight contenders in the UFC.
In 2011, Overeem avenged that loss in Strikeforce with a bizarre unanimous decision win over Werdum in a fight that saw Werdum repeatedly pull guard and refuse to engage Overeem on the feet.
Those fights saw both Overeem and Werdum bounce back from 2016 knockout losses to current champion Stipe Miocic.
If this fight comes to fruition it will be the third time Overeem and Werdum have fought one another.
Werdum submitted Overeem with a kimura back in 2006 when they competed in Pride.
